Remembering the "investment" God made |

This past Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday. Millions tuned in to watch the Colts vs. the Saints. Others probably tuned in with the express intent of only watching the commercials. Advertisers spend ridiculous amounts of money on 30 and 60 second "spots" in the hope of attracting buyers to their product. If they can attract enough buyers, then the costly investment is justified.
Every Sunday Christians gather around The Lord's Table to remember the "investment" that God made: He sacrificed His own Son to redeem the human race. A race that had rejected Him. Make no mistake: the investment was costly. Jesus died the most hideous death that humans could devise. And He did it for all mankind. For you. For me.
What has been the return on God's investment? Has every person turned from their rebellion and turned back to God? Has every person availed themselves of the forgiveness Christ offers? Hardly. If there were some way to tally the number of all humans who have lived since Calvary, and if there were some way to know how many have yielded to the Lordship of Christ we would probably be surprised to find out how few have accepted God's offer of grace.
Or perhaps we would not be surprised. The fact is that humans love their rebellion. They love to believe that they are the masters of their own destiny. No....there has not been a very good return on God's investment.
Aren't you glad that He went ahead with the plan anyway? Ponder where you would be without it. Think about that.
See you soon.
