H1N1.

Surely you have heard of it by now: the dreaded "Swine Flu" that the World Health Organization says may become a pandemic that could decimate the world.

I recently got my "regular" flu shot (diabetics should make a point of doing that) and I asked by doctor what he thought of the H1N1 hysteria.  He told me that over 37,000 Americans die each year from the "standard flu".  To date, only a relative handful has died from Swine Flu.

Not to belittle these numbers (after all, any person's death is a tragedy), it seems to me that a lot of fuss is being made over what might happen (H1N1) while a greater threat (the regular flu) is being ignored.  And almost everybody gets the regular flu!

That is soooooo like the human race!  We worry over something that might happen and we ignore what most likely will happen.

Let's take that scenario into the 'spiritual' realm.  People are panic-stricken over catching Swine Flu.  They may never get it.  And if they do get it, they most likely will not die from it (my doctor says it is much milder than regular flu).   However, every person is a sinner (according to Scripture).  And the Bible tells us that every sinner will "die" (Be separated from God for eternity).

Now, a remedy is coming for H1N1.  You may or may not choose to get it.  Take your chances if you want to...you may never contract Swine Flu.

A remedy also exists for sin:  the blood of Christ, which is applied to us when we come to Him in faith and repentance and action.   Every sinner who lacks this remedy will be separated from Christ for eternity in what the Bible describes as a "Lake of Fire".  Who wants to go there?  Especially when you don't have to; especially when a remedy is available?   Face it folks:  eternity is a lot longer than the week or so you might be down with the bug.

You may want to get both remedies.  But let me ask you: which one has the greater priority?

See you soon!
