This week's Blotter is a short one.  You will understand why when you read it.

On May 7, 2010 I attended the Baccalaureate for Kentucky Christian University.   The speaker, Dr. Tim Nischan, spoke of losing his 13 year-old son, Erich, to cancer a few years ago.  Although this is not an exact quote, here is the gist of what he said:

"Erich did not live a long life, but he lived a good life.  He lived it for God.  Some people wonder why Erich's life was cut short.  The fact is, none of us is promised a long life.  The Bible talks about life as a race.  None of us are guaranteed a race of equal length.  We all don't get the same number of laps around the track.  All we are promised is the finish line.  We need to run in order to finish and win."

He closed with this passage from 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.

27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize

That just about says it all.

See you soon!

Bill
