 Bill's Blotter:     MORALITY
In the title song of the 1967 film "Thoroughly Modern Millie", Julie Andrews scoffs at people scandalized by rising hemlines and risque dance steps.  After all, she sings, "this is 1922!"

I am fascinated by people who think that morals can be dispensed with simply because the date on the calendar has changed:
-Clark Gable shocked movie goers with his profanity in "Gone With the Wind."  But why be offended? "This is 1939!"
-Dr. Timothy Leary extolled the virtues of LSD in his famous dictum: "Tune in, turn on, drop out!"  Shocked?  Why?  "This is 1966!"
-Appalled by the Supreme Court's decision legalizing abortion? You need not be. "This is 1973!"
-A growing number of states are legalizing Gay Marriage. Grieved? Don't be: "This is 2009!"

The unsaved world may not be able to grasp the concept, but wrong does not become right just because the date on the calendar changes.  Christians take their cue from the unchanging Word of God.  The morality found in the Bible is not meant to stiffle society-- on the contrary: it helps us to live with one another in a civil, peaceful, dignified, honorable fashion.  Dispense with the moral guidelines and chaos ensues. Don't take my word for it... read the newspapers.

God set His moral guidelines in place for our benefit and safety. We discard them at our own peril.
