Hi all! I'm writing this Blotter on June 26th: but if all has gone according to plan it is now July 3rd. Linda and I are on vacation at my parents' house in eastern Ohio. Also here are my two brothers, their spouses and their kids. Becky has joined us as well. That means there are currently 16 people living under one roof.
My Mom always goes nuts cleaning the house in preparation for visits like this, but the truth is that 5 minutes after our horde gets there the place looks like a Palastinian refugee camp. Mom gets a little discouraged, but we tell her not to worry: the important thing is that we are all together.
In the Scripture we read of two wonderful sisters, Mary and Martha, who were friends of Jesus. One day, Jesus came to visit. Mary did what a lot of us would want to do: she went in, sat down and listened to Jesus. But Martha wanted the house to look good. And in Luke 10:10 we read her words of frustration: "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
Now, there is no indication in the Bible that Jesus loved a sloppy house. But He knew that other things were more important. Listening to Him, as Mary was doing, was the most important thing a person could do.
Summer time is a busy time for all of us. There are vacations, sports activities, work and social obligations. They are all important in their own ways.
Just remember that stopping and listening to Jesus is the most important thing you can do.
See ya soon!
