A news story that has been in national headlines for some weeks now concerns a New Albany, Ohio girl who fled to Florida after converting to Christianity from Islam. She told authorities that she feared her father would murder her in an "honor killing" to preserve the family's good name. She explained that Islam prescribes the death penalty for those who abandon the faith.
That story seems strange here in America where religion is often taken casually at best. The fact of the matter is that there are several countries where Christians are persecuted and even killed because of their faith.
Instead of merely counting your blessings that YOU live in a country free of such perils, try this: try remembering that Christians in these situations are your brothers and sisters in the Lord! These people need our prayers. Prayer that God will protect them. Prayer that God will give them strength to bear up under persecution. Prayer that their steadfast faith will lead others to Jesus.
Persecuted Christians around the globe are doing their best to be true to the command: "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life."
My hope is that their endurance inspires each of us to be more committed to the Lord Who gave Himself on the cross for us.
See you soon!
