A thousand apologies to all the kids who anxiously waited to read something in this piece dedicated to Rose Hill Church of Christ kids. Sometimes grown-ups can be goofy and lazy and silly and really really really “not-with-it.” Such is yours truly. Starting in December Mrs. Michelle Dorsey will be writing this piece. Michelle and sister Amy Absten do a magnificent job with children’s church during adult service. She is much more qualified than I to write about what Rose Hill kids are up to. With that said, I would like to tell everyone what the kids are going to for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a non-profit project that fills shoeboxes with goodies and toys to send to poor children all around the world. Jesus said that we must become like little children if we want to enter the kingdom of Heaven. Well, what better way to become like a child than to fill a shoe box with kid stuff and send to a kid who otherwise would receive nothing at Christmas. Christ gave us himself as a sacrifice. A shoebox filled with toys is a small contribution to another child but I am sure it fills our Lord with pure joy. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about? Loving children especially a very special child born in Bethlehem about 2000 years ago.
Peace to you this Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

Hi kids. Sorry about not having a story for July. Grown ups can forget things….lots of things. Anyway, I want to tell you about our Vacation Bible School. I think it was pretty good this year. We talked about Holy Heroes and what makes people heroes in God’s eyes. We learned about David, Joshua and Caleb, Esther (who was the answer to June’s riddle), Gideon, and the Apostle Peter. I hope you learned what made each of them a hero so you can be like them. We all make mistakes but God forgives us just like he forgave David for his sin with Bathsheba and Peter for his sin of denial. We also raised over $850 to send to some military families who really need the money. If you didn’t hear me when I told you, there are two families we are going to help. One family lives in Cleveland and the father was injured in a battle and will need help from his family and friends for the rest of his life. The other family lives here in Columbus and the father is expected to make a good recovery so he can be with his family. I am sure that God is pleased with each and every one of you for your sacrifice. I am sure that in God’s eyes, each of you is one of his Holy Heroes. Take care and God bless. Thanks. Paul |
Hi kids. How did you like last month’s riddle? If you guessed Samson, you’re RIGHT! You can read all about the strongman in Judges chapters 13, 14, 15, and 16. If you enjoyed that riddle how about one more for June? Here we go….
I’m the name of the book Where God’s name is never said I’m a Holy Hero I saved my people from ending up dead
After his chosen queen Refused his command I found favor with the king He asked me for my hand
My father heard an evil plot By angry court officials But my father told me B and T were the plotter’s initials
I told the king Who had them killed Royal blood was saved Only evil blood was spilled
All my people Were destined to be slain By another evil man More evil than Cain
I tricked him during a banquet In honor of my beloved father The king discovered his plot To destroy my people with no bother
My people were saved My story is in the Bible Where truth is always Far from the world’s libel

Hi kids!! How about something fun this month? I’ve got a Bible riddle for you to figure out. Read the answer next month.
WHO AM I? My name is not Arnold or Jack But I was big as a Mack I am strong with big muscles I pushed aside a temple’s trestle In history I sat as a Judge My decisions I did not budge My hair was long To cut it would have been wrong I loved a girl who did me bad A haircut she gave me that was totally sad I lost my sight one terrible night But got my revenge in a furious fight |

Hi kids! I hope school is going well for you and I know you are all excited about summer vacation. Summer vacation. Sounds wonderful doesn’t it? Warm sunny days filled with fishing at a neighbor’s pond, swimming in the creek down the road, playing whiffle-ball, playing hide-n-go-seek after dark, drinking Chocola, watching cartoons on Saturday morning. Oh, wait a minute. Sorry. That’s what I did when I was a kid. I forgot kids nowadays fish but do it with an XBOX. I think kids still swim but probably do it in a clean, crystal clear pool. Creeks and ponds are filled with all sorts of nasty stuff these days. And playing any form of ball whether it is whiffle-ball, softball, or baseball, well, I guess it’s kind of like the fishing thing. XBOX. And Chocola? Most of you probably never heard of such a drink. It was a real treat when I was a kid. You would put your nickel into a machine, open the lid, and then slide your drink, which was kept cold by ice water flowing through a wire maze, through that wire maze to a very thirsty kid. It was the treat that gave my brothers and me the reason to work hard on the farm during the hot days of summer. And as far as watching cartoons on Saturday mornings: two words for that piece of history… Cartoon Network. However, there is still one event in summer that has NOT changed in years. Vacation Bible School. This year we are going to learn what it means to be a hero. Hero is a word you hear a lot today in the news. But what does it really mean to be a hero? We are going to take some heroes of the Bible and show you what made them heroes. When VBS is finished, you will know what it means to be a hero, especially for God. Do you know who became heroes for God on Easter Sunday? Please welcome Haley and Kyle Moorehouse to the Kingdom. They were baptized into Christ Easter Sunday. If you haven’t met them yet, please do so. They are the grandchildren of Becky Chambers and the great-grandchildren of Bill and Betty Lucas. I’ve watched them grow in the youth program taught by Michelle Dorsey and Amy Absten. If you want to learn all about God and his son Jesus Christ, you are welcome to come any Sunday. We are always open. Love you all. Paul |
